Ranryuujin Sparda Gunshin
Age: 12
Starting City: Fairburn Town
Occupation: Trainer
[/ul]
Appearance
Weight: 118 lbs
Hair Color: White
Eye Color: Bright Turquoise
Skin Tone: Slightly pale
Clothing: Ranryuujin has two main outfits, which he has in color variations since he couldn’t be bothered to get more variety. It’s also because he valued the clothes given to him by the kindly old couple who took him in following his arrival in the town of Fairburn. Along with the clothes are: a new blue knapsack with a pokeball logo, sunglasses, flashlights, a sleeping bag, and an old tent.
Normal Journey Wear.. This outfit has many parts. First off, there is a long-sleeved white undershirt with checkered parts near the end of the sleeves. Over that is a short-sleeved shirt that’s half-white and half-black with a logo with the Japanese symbol for ten inside a diamond. On his left hand are two solid black rings which he got from the elderly couple as part of this outfit along with a necklace.
For his lower body, he wears white and black pants with a belt wrapped around his left leg and a skull mark on the right pant leg. He also has another belt on his waist where he keeps his pokeballs. To complete the outfit, he wears a pair of white sneakers with black highlights.
Winter Wear. He wears a plain white t-shirt underneath a black wool sweater with a zipper that’s usually left open half-way or all the way. Over that he wears a huge, furred brown leather coat which reaches below his knees. He also wears the necklace and the two black rings from his previous outfit.
As for his lower body, he wears thick dark blue pants along with a golden belt on his waist where he puts his pokeballs on. This is accompanied by battered old hiking boots a size too big for the poor boy. It was the only thing the old couple had… but Ranryuujin was happy to have it anyway.
Markings: A birth mark of a black and unusually-detailed Rayquaza on his right arm, which he hides with long sleeved shirts, jackets. There is also a huge tattoo of a dragon on his back, which his step-dad used to brand him with before he was able to run away. There are also a few faint scars all over his body.[/ul]
Personality
- In the presence of strangers/annoying people/etc- When interacting with other people, Ranryuujin is often gruff and to the point. He doesn’t like pleasantries, bragging, or any sort of idle chit-chat since he views it as a waste of time and breath, especially with strangers. He feels that it’s rather awkward to talk to other people for long lengths of time, making him to try and leave their presence as quick as possible unless he was interested in battling them.
Despite being blunt, he’s actually rather nice and chivalrous to other people and pokemon. He just prefers to do acts of niceness then leave, since he usually doesn’t want recognition if it’s not a battle. It’s more of an ingrained behavior from his time after murdering his step-dad, where he left everyone and everything was after him because he did something terrible. Thus his paranoia never really left him even in a faraway place like Harushima. - Without the presence of fellow humans/friends/family- When he is alone, Ranryuujin is often much more broody since his thoughts tend to stray towards a negative direction when seeing plant life and other similar things. Not only that, but he is much more twitchy and wary of his surroundings, almost to the point of paranoia. This is because of his very traumatic experiences in the past where he was abused by his step-father Ryoku. Not only that, but it’s compounded further by the dark act that he committed in order to save his life, as well as the memories of his mother’s murder and his true lineage.
This is why he usually has a pokemon out to keep him company. They watch his back and he watches their backs. Plus, the presence of a friend puts him at ease even if he would rarely- if ever- admit it. Having friends around always lighten up his day and make him more cheerful, erasing any sort of dark mood- unless that said friend caused. In which case he’d only get very irritated and force him into a darker mood.
He’s also more playful to his friends and family, often joking with them freely or trading sarcastic comments with them. He isn’t above childish teasing, playing, and pranking as well as long as no one unfamiliar could see him doing it. It would ruin the stone-faced front he was trying to present the world. The last thing he wanted was to be called a mere kid.
Starting Pokemon
History
Long before the invention of the first pokeball, there once were a people who had managed live with pokemon while respecting them and the balance of nature. They were a peaceful people who dedicated themselves to the protection of their homeland as well as their art. These people lived on Mt. Coronet in Sinnoh, where they believed was the place where everything began. Thus, they believed that the great Arceus slumbered here, leading them to worship the entire mountain as some sort of deity.
However, over time the teachings have been warped and corrupted with the passage of time and the influence of greed and pride. Soon, these people began to think that they were above others- pokemon or human- and declared themselves the chosen ones, reviling any sort of contact with outsiders. This belief soon disappeared when their resistance was crushed bitterly by another, more powerful tribe in Sinnoh who would have annihilated them if they did not have a use for said victors.
As such, said tribe on Mt. Coronet tried to find anything that would prevent their extinction… and found one by hunting down rare pokemon, giving them away to appease their masters. Thus, this once proud people were reduced to a bunch of hunters for the victors, who later became the main funders and owners of the notorious Team Galactic.
In time, they were corrupted by their jobs and began to love it… becoming more of monsters than their masters ever were. They were molded into the perfect servants and hunters for their masters, born and bred to only serve them. Of course, they hated this treatment but over time they grew to accept it and their role as servants.
They were Ranryuujin’s ancestors from his mother’s side. Ranryuujin himself was born out of one particularly festive night where one of the masters raped a particularly beautiful servant and conceived him. Of course, after said man found out she was pregnant he had that girl sent away to the most distant reaches of the mountains so that his peers would never know of his slip-up and his shame, so that he could preserve his reputation.
Thus, Ranryuujin was born in a rural settlement, with his mother accepting an engagement to Ryoku, a man that she hated and that lusted after her beauty in order to keep it all a secret. He was then raised in the way that men of Ryoku’s tribe were raised… meaning that he was raised as a warrior and as a poacher.
Ryoku knew that the boy was not his, so he took every pleasure in beating up the child and disguising it as training whether he was drunk or not. He also made the boy know very well that he was adopted but that he was not allowed tell anyone about that or of his treatment of him or his mother would suffer for it. Of course, Ranryuujin loved his mother and simply took the abuse quietly. His mother knew about her child suffering… but she couldn’t defend him from the wrath of his husband
Of course, Ryoku had to keep up the charade as well so he had to brand the boy at the age of 11 and gave him his first tattoo at the age of 11. Those were marks of honor and meant that the boy had passed the rites to manhood, something that Ryoku was loathe to give but had to because he earned it… and Ryoku always kept his word. However, that didn’t mean that he didn’t enjoy every single bit of pain that the process evoked.
However, everything had a breaking point. This was after Ranryuujin’s first hunt when he was 10, where Ryoku killed a female Garchomp with his Abomasnow who was in the way of a nest of powerful Onix. Ranryuujin saw a Gible cowering behind a rock while his ‘step-dad’ was rounding up the Onix with his helpers. Ranryuujin was sickened by the display of casual slaughter to such a majestic and powerful pokemon by his jerk of a step-dad. Seeing it, he decided to keep it safe by hiding it in one of his pokeballs, which was done after he managed to convince the Gible to stay in there for a while.
Flash-forward to the night afterwards, where his step-dad and his friends celebrated the huge haul he had. Ryoku got very drunk over the course of the night, and stumbled into his step-son’s room with Ranryuujin’s mother Aria in tow after all of the guests have left. He managed to bump a table while dragging her to the bed, which opened up to reveal the Gible.
Seeing it, Ryoku was very mad that his step-son kept something like that from him. Thus, he took out his hunting knife and called out Ranryuujin, who promptly obeyed. Once Ranryuujin got there, he paled as he saw that his deception was found out. His dad then decided to punish him by cutting him up, but Aria got in the way and got herself killed… which made Ranryuujin snap. The last thing before he launched himself at his step-dad was that this was certainly ironic because now both his and the Gible’s mother are both dead by the same man.
With the help of the Gible, he managed to accidentally kill his step-dad after defending the Gible from a mortal blow, which scared him beyond belief as there were now two corpses in his room. In his confusion and fear he fled the place with his backpack, Gibe’s pokeball and the Gible itself while injured with many superficial cuts, a deep curving cut one on his left arm and three broken ribs.
He managed to get patched up by a nearby Pokemon center down the mountain range after three days, who also provided him with a bath and breakfast along with healing for his pokemon. Before that the Gible had to rip the boy’s shirt to shreds in order to make makeshift bandages for it. While spending the week there recuperating from his injuries, he saw a flyer about Harushima. Seeing that, he decided to go there since he didn’t want to stay in Sinnoh with so many bad memories and the probability of being hunted down and killed for technically being a renegade servant.
Thus, on the day that he felt ready enough he went away from the vicinity of Mt. Coronet and towards the nearest docks, hiding himself in the wild and only having Azazel, his newly-named Gible, go along with him since both of them had really grown attached to each other over the few days they’ve known each other.
Once there, he used up all of his money for a third-class ticket to Harushima. He would have tried getting a job on board instead, but his ribs were still healing and he had to take it easy. Therefore he spent the next week on a boat, keeping to himself to avoid trouble even if many people were curious on why an injured kid was alone on a boat ride. The only thing that saved him from much questioning was the sole pokeball on his belt, which made people mistake him to be a trainer. When they did, he just played along.
When he finally arrived at Harushima at the boat’s first stop at Fairburn town a week later, he went out of the boat where he then realized something: he knew nothing about this place aside from the brochure n his beat-up bag. He was also down to his last pair of clothing and very hungry as well, since he hadn’t eaten properly since that last pokecenter before boarding the boat.
To his credit, he hadn’t collapsed out of hunger until he got to the edge of the town. Luckily for him, a kindly old couple named Maria Gunshin and Mark Gunshin found him from where he collapsed and managed to lift him and his bag to their house. When Ranryuujin woke up he freaked out at being in an unfamiliar house, believing that someone had caught him and was going to kill him as well. It was a good thing that they managed to calm him down enough to explain before his ribs became too aggravated.
Once they explained, Ranryuujin thanked them and went to leave since he didn’t want to impose, except the couple wouldn’t allow it since he looked very pale and underfed, not to mention that he was still injured. The old couple managed to convince him to stay, saying that he could help around the house in payment for staying there and being cared for. Ranryuujin agreed without much fuss since he was still too much depressed to put up much of a fight.
For the next couple of months he stayed there, gradually recovering his strength and becoming closer to not only the old couple, but his pokemon as well. Six months into his stay he was fully healed of his broken ribs and fully repaid the care he had received, but the Gunshin couple had become attached to him, so they convinced him to stay a few more months. Ranryuujin crumbled under their requests easily since they were so nice to him.
During his entire stay with the Gunshin couple, he often visited the lab to learn more about Azazel. It was there where he became enamored with the life of a pokemon trainer, since from the stories that he had heard from other kids visiting there… it was the essence of being free. And if it was one thing he had always wanted it was to be free- granted he was free right now, but he wanted to do something with his life. Not only that, but this took his mind off of those gruesome days back in Mt. Coronet.. The couple and Azazel noticed that, and encouraged him in their own ways, cultivating him in taking the trainer’s license exam.
When he turned 12, the couple had a surprise for him: they had decided to adopt him since he had no family and that they already considered him one of their own. Not only that, but it was the day where he was given his own trainer’s license and pokedex by the examiner, the professor, along with a pokemon egg as payment for the services that the boy inevitably did for the professor. It was the happiest day of his life ever since that day when his mother was killed, and he reveled in it.
Soon after, he asked permission to start his pokemon journey. Both of them let him go and were very sad to do so, even though they understood that ever since he took an interest in becoming a trainer that this day would come. After a tearful yet funny goodbye, Ranryuujin Sparda Gunshin started his journey alongside his pokemon.[/blockquote]
