I waded through the tall grass, brushing a stray piece from my face. It was ridiculously unkempt, but the towering windmills in the distance and the sun high above allowed me to keep a sense of direction. Riolu, instead of following me, was perched on my shoulder, "looking out" for us (even though he really couldn't see any higher than I could).
There was an odd clearing of almost-normal length grass in which we emerged, taking a breather. The sky was a beautiful sight this morning, all blue with thick patches of white, all lined in gold. My goal was to find a Ponyta--I suspected that they made their home around this area. It was hospitable to them, certainly.

"There, Riolu! Let's catch it." I grinned and Riolu hopped down from my shoulder. The Ponyta was about a foot taller than Riolu on all fours, but Riolu approached fearlessly. The ponyta gazed up from its meal and stepped back a few steps in anticipation of the coming fight.
"Get up close and personal!" I ordered. Riolu dashed forward, and jumped up directly in an attempt to kick at the Ponyta's head. The Ponyta reared up, however, and Riolu's kick met nothing but air. The fire horse pokemon landed and charged, smashing into Riolu with tackle and sending him skidding backward. He had managed to get his hands up and block part of the blow, allowing him to stay standing as he took the hit. Again he ran forward, and the Ponyta did as well. The horse lowered its head and Riolu sidestepped the attack, punching at the closest leg to him. The Ponyta gave a cry as it's leg collapsed and it fell lopsided, opened up to attack. Riolu gave a flurry of thrusting kicks at the side of the Ponyta's head, toppling it over and causing another cry to erupt from the pokemon.
It struggled to its feet and turned as it did so, whipping its fiery tail toward Riolu. Riolu stepped back, narrowly dodging the tail but feeling its heat as it swept by. Thinking the pokemon was open, he rushed in, but the Ponyta turned faster than expected and slammed into Riolu again with tackle. This time he hadn't quite prepared himself and was sent hurdling through the air, before landing on his back roughly. Grimacing, he arose and I called out a new order.
"Move in for close combat again, but fake it and step back for a quick attack!" Riolu charged in, and the Ponyta cried out before lashing her tail at Riolu. Riolu stepped back as she turned and dodged the attack easily, before disappearing ina blur and reappearing above the Ponyta's head, smashing into her head with his knee. It fell over, crying and struggling to stand.
I took the chance to remove a pokeball from my belt. It grew in size before I rolled it toward the Ponyta. It gently tapped the pokemon before opening up and taking it in with its white glow. I watched in anticipation as the ball thrashed about.
