((OoC: I'm doing this thread, as a continuation to my thread on Route One. I'm gonna start with teaching Sweet Scent to chikorita, which will take eleven posts for the lvl 28 move. After that, let the random encounters and open RPing ensue! )) After winning his first trainer battle, James was so psyched that he started jogging his way into route two. Poor Aster barely managed keep up with him, and was panting a bit when James stopped. He looked down at Aster and crouched to gently pet its leaf, looking apologetic. "Sorry about that, Aster. I-" He stopped talking when he smelled an amazing odor. He began looking around and sniffing the air as he tried to find the origin of the scent. Amazingly enough, he discovered that it was coming from Aster. He The smell was gone, but he realized it was most powerful when he was petting her leaf. He took out his pokédex and tried to find an answer. It told him that like several plant pokémon, chikoritas were able to use the Sweet Scent ability, allowing it to calm down aggressive pokémon. "Wow." This was all James could say as he put his pokédex away and knelt down beside Aster. "Could you do that, again? Use Sweet Scent attack." Chikorita looked as if it was grunted and straining, attempting to produce the wonderful aroma a second time. She finally gave up, panting and nuzzling James' hand as if trying to apologize. "It's OK, buddy. The only thing we can do is keep trying." He jumped to his feet and took on a generic stance of awesomeness. "We can't give up!" Aster looked refreshed as it excitedly said its name, agreeing with James. He tried to think of a way to recreate what happened, when Aster gave off the aroma. He realized it happened while he was petting her on her leaf. "Hmm... The attack must come from your leaf, Aster. Let's see if I can pet you just right." He got back down on the ground and began stroking Aster's leaf(bow chika bow wow) in hopes that he could cause her to use the move. It took a while of petting her in different ways, which Aster didn't seem to mind, before James once again smelled the scent. He continued petting her in that way, while he spoke. "Do you feel that, Aster? Do you feel how the scent is coming out of your leaf? Do you think you could do that?" Aster took a step away from James and began struggling to recreate the sensation of using Sweet Scent. She had to take breaks every so often, from the exhaustion, but never gave up. Suddenly the air was filled with the beautiful aroma, but it didn't last very long. Aster gave a very happy "Rita!" before continuing its endeavors. Meanwhile, James took out his pokédex, in hopes of finding something that would help. Nothing. "Ah, well. I guess we just keep trying." James put his pokédex away and looked up at Aster. He noticed that the intermittent aromas had worked to draw a pokémon to Aster. "Aster! Look out!" ((OoC: OK. I'll tutor the move intermittently between battles, since the move draws out wild pokémon. lol)) Sweet Scent: 6/21 paragraphs

((Well, then... I guess this thread is gonna be a bit longer than I first thought! XD))
James was quick to whip out his pokédex, which he suddenly though to nickname Walter, for no particular reason. He scanned the zangoose and listened to the explanation given by Walter. "Hmm... I should catch it!" He was about to have Aster attack it, when he pondered something, whilst watching the zangoose relax. He moved over to where Aster was, and addressed the zangoose. "Excuse me, but would you like to be my friend, and travel with me? It would definitely help to have another powerful pokémon like you with me!"
Aster was quick to chime in with her own thoughts on the matter. The zangoose simply waved its claw in dismissal and continued to laze about. Discouraged, but not about to give up, James turned to Aster. "Try using Sweet Scent at it." Aster stepped forward and strained to use the attack, but was unable. James put a hand on his chin, as he tried to think of another approach. "I guess the only thing left to do is battle!" Hearing this, the zangoose jumped up and growled at him. "Or... you could just join us and we can all avoid a fight."
It was clear that zangoose preferred the thought of fighting, and it clanged its claws together, before charging at Aster. "Quick, use Growl." Aster growled at the zangoose, who slowed its charge a bit, but was resolute in defeating her. It suddenly bolted at Aster with a Quick Attack, to which Aster failed to dodge in time. She was sent hurtling to the other side of the path, but was quick to get to her feet. "Another Growl, then Razor Leaf!" The succession of attacks hit the mark, and zangoose got into a defensive posture as it tried to block the leafs with its claws.
After the attack ended, it glared at Aster with Leer, which caused Aster to shudder a bit with apprehension. Don't lose faith, champ! Let's hit it with another Razor Leaf!" This would have to wait, as zangoose slammed into Aster with another Quick Attack. It then tried a Scratch attack, but was interrupted with a close range Razor Leaf. Worn down, the zangoose took a few steps back, and James used the zangoose's lack of energy to his advantage.
"Tackle, then Razor Leaf!" Aster followed orders quickly, pummeling the wild pokémon into submission. Kneeling and holding itself up with one of its hands, the beaten zangoose looked at Aster, even though it was James who made the next move. "Go, pokéball!" He flung it at the zangoose, hoping to easily add it to his team.

After collecting the placid pokéball and putting back in its respective slot, he crouched down to check on Aster's wounds. "Are you OK, girl? Maybe we should take a bit of a break, before we do any more training..." They found a spot on the side of the path and sat down. James took off his backpack, to not only relieve him of the extra weight, but to also retrieve some sandwiches he had made before he started his journey.
They had eaten a few the night before, while they camped out on Route One, but he had plenty left. He decided to call out Wolf and Quin, to see if they were hungry. Upon exiting his pokéball, Wolf happily barked at James. Quin, on the other hand, glared at Aster while painfully holding herself up. "Hey, hey. Knock it off, you two. We need to all be friends, OK?" James looked through his backpack as he spoke, pulling out one of his potions. He noticed that after this one, he only had one left.
'Hmm... I'm gonna need to go back to Fairburn to buy some more.' At James' words about being friends, both Aster and Quin gave a simultaneous ''Hmph!'', or at least their versions of it. They turned their backs to one another, as James approached Quin, spraying the normal type with it. "Zan! Zangoose!", the pokémon protested as soon as she felt the liquid hit her body. Quin's disposition changed, however, once the cooling medicine took effect, healing her of her wounds. "Isn't that better, now?" Quin gave a soft "Goose..." before resuming its obvious show of contempt for both James and Aster. "Awww, c'mon... Don't be like that, Quin. I gave you the choice to go without a fight, after all..."
This got no reaction from her, so James motioned Aster and Wolf to sit near him, and he divvied up a sandwich. "Mmmm... This is so good, isn't it guys?" He made sure to be extra loud, to make sure Quin heard him. They both gave happy responses, indicating that they were also enjoying it. Quin began silently fuming before whipping around and yelling at them. She then began drudging her way slowly to them, grumbling. James chuckled and gave her some of his sandwich. One comedic time-lapse later, he was back at it, training Aster in using Sweet Scent.
[Resume training]
"Alright, then! Let's try it again!" Aster looked as if she was pouring her heart and soul into using the move, but consistently failed. "Hmm... I wonder if maybe we could ask someone about learning this move quicker." Aster kept on trucking with her attempts at using Sweet Scent, while James looked around. He didn't see anybody around, so he gave up on that idea.
He decided to pet Aster's leaf again, to remind her of what motions caused the aroma to be produced. "Come on, Aster. I know you can do it, if you just try hard enough." Aster was distracted however, not only from being petted, but from the small spurts of the calming scent that sporadically emerged. James stopped petting her, and stood up to see if she could do it by herself.
She tried and tried, but nothing seemed to work. She even tried rubbing her leaf on a tree, but that did nothing. Nothing would deter her, however, as she kept on straining and struggling to use the move. Suddenly, the air was once again filled with the Sweet Scent, and bot5h James and Aster cheered, even though it only lasted a few seconds.
"I knew you could do it, Aster! Just keep on trying, and you'll master it in no time!" Aster looked determined as she gave a triumphant "Chika!", and she went back to her training. James felt useless, as there was really nothing he could do to help her learn the move. He swiftly whipped Walter out and opened him, a maneuver he was getting very used to.
He looked up the move, but couldn't find any useful information on it, that would help him train Aster in using it. Every so often, he'd get faint and brief whiffs of the smell, as Aster continued trying. James put Walter away and began cheering Aster on, urging her and building up her confidence.

James was busy cheering on his pokémon, when suddenly he noticed an obviously plant-type pokémon. 'Hmm... I already have a plant-type in my team, so I'll let them take this one down for the battle experience.' With that thought in his mind, he called on Aster to stop her training, for training of a different sort. "I don't know how good your attacks'll be against this one, but start with Razor Leaf!" The bellsprout seemed a little shocked as what was an enticing scenario that turned into a fight.
Regardless, it used its slender body to avoid most of the leafs, but was hit by a few. Not seeming to fazed by the blow, it jumped in to attack with Vine Whip. It planned it so that when Aster moved out of the way of the first one, she got hit right on the head with the second one. "Just shake it off, and use Tackle!" The opposing pokémon moved to the left in a futile attempt to dodge, and was nearly sent on its backside. It retaliated by forming a green ball of light at the end of its vines. At this point, James remembered that he should get information on this pokémon, and had Walter in his hand.
Learning that the move was Growth, and what it did, James was a bit confused at why the bellsprout would be attempting to heal its opponent. The answer was that it wasn't. The beam of light shot to the ground at Aster's feet and caused the grass to grow, wrapping slightly around her legs. James grunted and called Aster back into her pokéball. "OK. I started this journey to burn bridges, and that's exactly what we'll do! Go, Wolf! EMBER!" As soon as his houndour emerged from its pokéball, it fired a barrage of burning embers at bellsprout, who could do nothing but cry in pain.
"Good job, Wolf. Use Leer, then another Ember!" At this point, the bellsprout had begun moving around Wolf quickly, in hopes of getting away from its ember-producing mouth. At the sight of Wolf's glowing red eyes, however, the plant stopped dead in its tracks, not wanting to take its eyes off its foe. The bellsprout managed to dodge the following attack, now used to the way Ember moved. It came back with a succession of Vine Whips, one after the other.
Wolf snapped at the vines, as they impacted his body and face. Undaunted by the grass-type move, Wolf charged forward to close the distance on this quick foe and used one final Ember attack. The poor bellsprout didn't even stand a chance...

James laughed at his sweet success. Maybe he had enjoyed that a little too much? He put Walter back, and pondered over the poor pokémon he had just obliterated. He wondered what would become of this incapacitated bellsprout. Would another come along and capture it? Would something come along and... eat it??
There was no way of knowing, but James decided he couldn't just leave the poor thing out here, all alone. He called Wolf back into his pokéball and walked over to where the bellsprout lie. He stooped down and picked it up, cradling it in his arms. Not surprised by how light it was, James decided it would be best to simply continue through this route, into the next town, and deliver it to the pokémon center.
Surely, they would take it in and make sure it was taken care of. So with an unconscious bellsprout in his arms, James walked back onto the path and started heading for Flint City.
((lol. Ending this thread. Enough people convinced me that tutoring Sweet Scent was a bad idea. XD))

(( Since I don't know when my gym battle will actually happen, *coughcough* I decided to come back to Route Two for some battle goodness. ))
James was back on Route Two, as he had noticed that Route One seemed to lead into a forest, while he had passed it. He decided to give Gaston the grimer some battle experience before heading off for that forest. "Alright, Gaston. Keep your eyes open for any wild pokémon, who might want to pick a fight! We're gonna toughen you up, battle by battle." He spoke as he headed off the route itself, out into the fields.
Gaston was cheerfully following right behind him, not really paying attention to anything going on around him. James had Walter out and was looking through the data it contained about grimers. He wanted to learn everything he could about Gaston's moves and battle potential. He almost fell over backwards when he saw a picture of Gaston's evolution, muk. He turned around to look at his grimer, before looking at the picture of muk, then at his pokémon again. "Sweeet."
He couldn't believe such a small glob of goop would eventually become... a massive glob of goop. Well, it wasn't that far-fetched, actually, but the picture of a muk still looked pretty cool. James started walking again, as he put Walter away so he could keep an eye out for any potential opponents. "Come on, Gaston. We've got places to go and pokémon to battle."

A Wild Level 7 Stunky Appears! The poison skunk pokemon is laying on top of a rock, sunning itself. Once it notices you, it scrambles to it's feet and releases a cloud of foul smelling liquid in your direction.

Though his grimer didn't seem to mind the odor at all, James coughed and gagged, as he waved his hand in front of his face. "Aw, jeez! That is DISGUSTING!" Between coughs, he managed to command his pokémon to retaliate. He just hoped the stench wouldn't be permanent on his clothes. "Gaston!' He had trouble even saying his grimer's name, with the overwhelming stench, but it was thankfully beginning to lessen in severity. "Get tough with Harden, and hit it with Pound!" After those words, James decided to move upwind of where he had been standing, getting sweet relief from the odoriferous air.
Gaston's entire body became rigid and hard, and it slammed a fist into the wild stunky. Or at least it would have, if the pokémon hadn't dodged it so aptly. Perhaps that technique would be better on slower pokémon, but the Harden had slowed Gaston too much to be quick enough with the attack. James was about to call out another attack, hoping to hit, but was cut off as Gaston received a weak Scratch attack. Thankfully, the defensive move Gaston used had worked to lessen the blow, and James was ready with a different attack. "Use Mud Slap on it, Gaston!" He was desperately trying to avoid using Poison Gas, in fear that it would stink as bad as the stunky's spray. The grimer obeyed, and gather up a wad of mud, slapping it into the stunky's face.
The skunk pokémon seemed particularly affected by the ground-type move, and James pulled out Walter to see why. After learning that pokémon of the poison type are weaker to ground-based moves, he learned that the attack Gaston just used worked to lower the foe's accuracy. "It's like a two-for-one, Gaston! Do it again!" Gaston was interrupted, however, when the foe used Screech attack. James accidentally dropped Walter as his hands moved to cover his ears.
Gaston's general appearance changed, as his Harden became counter-acted with the Screech. James picked up Walter, checking it for damage, while Gaston used another Mud Slap, now quicker without Harden in effect. The skunky leapt forward, hoping to let off a series of Scratch attacks, but missed Gaston by a good bit, the mud in its eyes working harshly against it. James was relieved to find that his pokédex was unharmed by the fall, and put it away. Though Mud Slap was effective against the skunky, it was still a fairly weak hit, so James decided to call Gaston back. "Let's finish this, Wolf!"
The houndour emerged and growled at the skunky as it awaited James' commands. "Alright, boy! Use Will-o-Wisp, then Leer!" Unable to effectively see the approaching attacks, the skunky was effected as the blue flames inflicted it with a burn all over its body. Attempting to shake the mud out its eyes, though, it never even looked Wolf in the eyes. This meant the Leer didn't have the opportunity to take effect. "Alright, Wolf. Bombard it with Embers until it drops!" Wolf began circling the pokémon as it used Ember attack over and over.
The blinded skunky swung wildly with Scratch as it was burned, managing to land a few hits, but ultimately collapsing in exhaustion and pain from the numerous fire attacks.

"WHOO!" James was pretty happy with the performance of his pokémon, at this stage, but felt he should probably train his grimer in a new move. "Hmm... Which one, though?" He spoke to no one but himself, not expecting anyone to answer. He flipped open Walter, and looked through all the potential abilities that Gaston would be able to learn. "What's this? Punching moves... Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch...? Wow. I'll teach Gaston one of those."
He looked over to Wolf, and decided he had enough fire power, so Fire Punch was unnecessary. That left it between either Ice Punch or Thunder Punch. Unable to decide over such a big decision, James decided to simply continue with his battle training. Eventually, he'd come to a conclusion. He decided to keep Wolf out, so he could give his pokémon an even amount of battling, and so he wouldn't tire any one pokémon out too quickly.
Putting Walter away, he whistled to Wolf. "Come on, champ. Let's find us some opponents." with that, James and Wolf continued on their way along Route Two, looking for more pokémon.

James noticed a strange pokémon that seemed to have a head on both ends of it, trying to reach some high berries. He decided to try and give it a helping hand and headed for the tree in order to climb it. As soon as this strange human approached its potential food source, however, the pokémon got enraged and growled at him. James slowly put his hands in front of him as he backed away. "Easy there, fella. I'm not trying to hurt you. I was ju-" James was cut off as the pokémon began charging, trying to Tackle him. "AAAH!" James spun around and began booking it for dear life.
Wolf intercepted with a Leer, causing the wild pokémon to rethink its aggressive behavior. James noticed that he wasn't being accosted anymore, and turned back around. Simply causing the pokémon to back down wasn't enough for Wolf, as this interloper had attempted to harm his trainer. This pokémon was going down. Wolf quickly used a Will-o-Wisp on it, but the move was evaded with a step to the left and a jump to the right. It came back at Wolf with a Confusion attack, the likes of which didn't even effect the Dark-type pokémon. It was about this time that James decided to pull out his pokédex and scan the foe. After that , he put Walter away and took charge of the fight.
"Wolf, hit it with an Ember!" Wolf did as he was told, and sent smoldering ash at the girafarig, causing it to rear up on its hind legs. It then hit Wolf with a quick Tackle attack, sending Wolf tumbling over the ground. Getting back up, the houndour executed the next move issued to it, another Leer attack. Noticeably shaken by the near-demonic glare of Wolf, the pokémon took a few steps back, bumping into a tree. "Go for the burn with another Will-o-Wisp!" This time, the move hit its target, covering girafarig in burns. "Good work, Wolf! Come on back now!" The red flash of light drew Wolf back into his pokéball, and James grabbed another one, sending it hurtling into the air.
Quin the zangoose emerged from her ball, raring to go. "Quin, use Quick Attack, followed by Scratch!" Executing the orders with precision and power, the zangoose left the girafarig in dire straits, attempting to catch its breath. It wouldn't be defeated so easily, however, and sent out another Confusion, which knocked Quin back a bit. "Counter with a Brick Break, Quin!" Quin used the move, but she used it on a nearby tree, sending a mass of bark and splinters flying. "Quin?" The zangoose spun around slowly in a confused state, and the girafarig took this moment to hit her with Tackle. Quin was sent to the ground, but the attack knocked her back to her senses.
Needless to say, she was not happy, and spun around to hit the foe with another Quick Attack. The girafarig stumbled and almost fell over, but managed to stay on its feet, unleashing another Confusion. This time, Quin was prepared, and leapt out of the way in time to avoid it. "Use another Quick Attack, followed by a couple of Scratches!!" The hail of attacks hit the girafarig, and Quin continued to use Scratch on the worn-down pokémon. "Alright, Quin! That's enough!" James was planning on catching the pokémon, but Quin had other plans and used a devastating Brick Break. This sent the girafarig to the ground hard, and Quin stood there looking down at it, to see if it would get back up.

"Tch. Wanted to catch that one..." James sighed, as he called Quin back. Maybe it would be better to use a more obedient pokémon, when trying to catch one. He pulled her pokéball from his hip slot and called out Aster. "Aster, come on out!" In a red instant, the Grass-type was standing next to him, looking up at him in anticipation. "Alright, Aster. We're gonna look for a girafarig, so I can catch one." He took Walter back out, flipped it open to show girafarig's picture, and let Aster see it.
"Chika!" With that, Aster was rummaging through foliage and that, in search of this specific pokémon. "If you see one, Aster, use Ingrain and then Razor Leaf it!" Another "Chika!' let James know his words were heard. At least he could depend on Aster to always follow is order, which is more than he could say about a certain cat ferret pokémon in his possession. He chuckled, finding slight amusement in Quin's independent thinking, though he'd have to have a serious talk with her about following his lead.
