Vern is the leader of the Gym in Jade City, and a master of Bug Type Pokemon. Vern is an antsy young man that just seems to have a vast amount of energy at all times. His hair is dark brown and is always messed up. He wears a lime-green tanktop , rolled-up blue-jean pants and simple sandals. His Pokeballs are stored within his pocket.

Vern’s gym is designed to give his Bug Types the added advantage. The arena floor consists of simple, soft dirt and trees and other vegetation are present on the field itself however the cover is not dense enough to provide complete vision obstruction. The two trainers stand on opposite sides of the arena, which is twenty meters long and ten meters wide. The arena itself is raised about a meter above ground. There are no windows within the Arena as the spectator benches stand about five meters away from the arena itself. The ceiling is open, allowing the elements to play a role within the battle.

When defeated, Vern gives the Aracid Badge, a black badge in the shape of an arachnid, thus alluding to the trainer’s victory over bug pokemon.
