[/ul][/ul] Reward Money: 1000 Stepping out onto Route 05, she was immediately approached by a young man who challanged her to a Pokemon Battle. Hotaru was vastly confident that she would be able to best the young man in combat, so much so that she decided to use him as a training target while she taught her pokemon new abilities. The first pokemon her opponent threw onto the field was a Natu, a species Hotaru was unfamiliar with. Flipping open her Pokedex, the mechanincal voice filled her. "Natu. The Tiny Bird Pokemon. Because its wings aren't yet fully grown, it has to hop to get around. It is always staring at something." "Weird..." Hotaru said bluntly, sending out a pokemon of her own onto the field. "Come on out, Utsuwa!" She hoped to use the Starfish's mysterious powers to thwart the small bird. Scanning through her pokedex, she found a list of moves available to tutor to her Staryu. One in particular caught her eye. Calling out to her pokemon, the young woman commanded Staryu to use a new move. "Utsuwa, try a signal beam!" The starfish pokemon's body began to spin, focusing it's energy on the crimson gem embedded in it's core. Though she may have just imagined it, Hotaru thought she saw a light flicker within the jewel. However, it was Utsuwa's first time even trying the attack, so she didnt expect results right away. A snide jeer was shot by her opponent. "What's the matter? That thing broken?" Hotaru paid the comment no mind. This kid was going to lose. It was just going to take a little longer than usual. "Try that signal beam again!" With silent obedience, the staryu began to spin in place, forcing more energy into it's core in an attempt to withdraw a rainbow colored beam. Multicolored sparks began to fly around the gemstone, however, the singular mass of a beam was still not present. "Enough freebies. Natu, use Peck!" Suddenly, the small bird pokemon's beak began to glow white, and it hopped quickly towards Staryu. "Quick Utsuwa! Harden!" With a flash of reacted sunlight, the Staryu's body became rigid, and it took the peck attack head on. However, very little damage was done to the rock like exterior of the Staryu. "Try another Signal Beam!" Spinning around rapidly, a multicolored light began to shine within the core of Staryu. The entire gem became encased in a prismatic pattern, and small sparks were discharged from the mass. Suddenly a small blast, no longer than a meter, was fired from the core, however it fizzled out just before it made contact with the Natu's body. The other trainer sneered and shouted another set of commands. "Natu! Teleport and then Peck!" The small bird promptly disappeared, reappearing right behind Utsuwa and delivering a peck attack to the back of her body, causing some damage to the Pokemon's body. "Utsuwa! Give another signal beam!" Spinning around, the starfish pokemon's core began to glow again, this time gathering energy at a more rapid rate. The mass of prismatic light was suddenly fired at the Natu, however, it lacked the substance to travel more than a few meters, missing the Natu who had teleported a five meters in referse. A smirk was given by the opponent. "Natu! Use Night shade!" Suddenly, the entire battlefield faded to absolute black, blocking all light from entering the field. Though this turn of events would normally spell trouble, it seemed that her opponent was stupider than she thought. "You did happen to realize that Staryu doesn't have any eyes, right? So it isnt effected by Night shade or any other vision hindering attacks." Her opponent's face contorted to a look of fear. Hotaru continued. "However, Signal beam should be just strong enough to knock that Natu out, considering it's type weakness. Utsuwa! Signal Beam!" From the depths of the black field, a rainbow of lights began to dance from the core in the Staryu's body. However, this time the move was executed perfectly, knocking the Natu backwards as it was assailed with a beam of light comprised of every color. [/blockquote]

- Hoppip [ Level 10 ]
[/ul][/ul] Reward Money: 1000 A red lazer beam shot from her opponent's pokeball, withdrawing the unconscious Natu back into it's capsule. After praising the success of her Staryu, Hotaru did the same, recalling her Pokemon in a flash or red light. Her opponent chucked another Pokeball onto the field, this one bursting into a cascade of white light, eventually birthing a Mareep on the dirt road who made its presence known with a proud "Eeeep." Kissing the ball she had already withdrawn, Hotaru hurled the sphere to the field which opened on its hinge, expelling a shower of white light and flying right back into her hand. From the light appeared the Oddish she had captured earlier. The small pokemon had never been in a battle before, a fact that became evident when the leaf topped creature turned around and began to run towards Hotaru. "Err...Not now hun...You gotta get rid of that Sheep first." She said with her finger outstretched, guiding the oddish's curious red gaze to the static pokemon. With a determined "Odd!" The young pokemon prepared for battle. Since Hotaru was using her opponent to tutor her pokemon new techniques, she shouted out a brand new command to her pokemon. "Rafflesia! Razor Leaf! Shoot them from the leaves on your head!" The foreign command seemed to confuse the oddish, who simply swished the leaves on her head playfully at the Mareep. Looking at the small pokemon with a smile, Hotaru felt a bit worried that she had thrown Oddish into battle too soon. "What are you trying to do!?" Her opponent yelled from across the battlefield "You're making this too easy!" He squawked again, "Mareep, tackle attack!" On it's owners command, the sheep pokemon began to charge forward, aimed to tackle the small oddish. "Dodge it Rafflesia! Then try another razor leaf!" Leaping out of the way of the linear tackle attack quite easily, Oddish began to shake her head back and forth, trying to draw out the razor leaves her owner commanded. Though she tried her best, she only managed to form and shoot a single, small leaf from her head. The small projectile sailed forward, spinning through the air before losing its momentum and wafting lazily to the ground. "Nice try, Rafflesia!" She encouraged, excited that she had made some progress. With an angry look on his face, the young trainer that was her opponent shouted another command. "Mareep! Thundershock!" The pokemon began charging power, shooting a blast of electric energy towards the oddish. The electric energy crashed down on the Oddish, however, the damage caused was only minimal because of the type disadvantage. "Try another razor leaf!" She cried out, unphased by the static technique unleashed upon her only seconds earlier. With a confidant "odd!" the young pokemon began to shake her head, improving on the results she had achieved a few moments ago. A cloud of emerald colored leaves were released into the air, floating gently though the air before being imbued with a razor sharp edge. The leaves quickly took off through the air, spinning around, aimed right at the Mareep. Though the leaves seemed to make contact, the razor edge they had upon formation had dispersed, causing no damage to the puffy fleece of the Mareep. "That all you got!? Mareep! Thundershock!" Her opponent chided, commanding the Mareep to assail the plant pokemon with electricity once again, the static attack hit home, causing minor damage to Oddish. "Rafflesia! Absorb!" Shooting a red beam from the leaves on her head, the ray of light hit the sheep pokemon, sucking enough health from it to recover the damage it took. "Hit it now! Razor Leaf!" Leaping into the air, Oddish began to shake her head, spraying dozens of crescent shaped leaves from her top, imbuing each with a sharp edge capable of causing a moderate amount of damage. Spiraling through the air, the sharp projectiles contacted the Mareep, causing enough damage to cause it to fall to the ground, exhausted from its injuries. "Way to go Rafflesia!" Hotaru chimed, making a snide smile at her opponent for besting another one of his companions. [/blockquote]

Mareep [ Level 10 ]
- Hoppip [ Level 10 ]
[/ul][/ul] Reward Money: 1000 The young woman was quite pleased with her performance so far. Her oddish had taken almost no damage in the previous encounter, and with it's limited movepool, she decided she would use Rafflesia once again if her opponent selected a pokemon she thought she could beat. With a grimace on his face, her opponent gripped the final pokeball on his belt, and hesitated before tossing the sphere on the field. He was clearly not confident in his final pokemon's abilities, and after a cascade of white light, she could see why. A hoppip floated cheerfully around in the air, seeminly happy to be free of his confinement. Hoppip were relatively useless pokemon on the battle field, and Hotaru felt a little bad about having to defeat it. However, this was the battle field, and no mercy would be shown. Glancing at her pokedex, Hotaru scanned through data on Oddish and a particularly useful skill. Pointing to her target, she shouted oddish a command to learn another new skill. "Oddish, try a Toxic attack!" The small creature reared back and attempted to gather the poisonous liquid in it's mouth. Lunging forward, she propelled a small jet of saliva into the air, though the agile flyer easily dodged the attack. Suddenly, the boy cried out an attack. "Tackle attack!" The pink creature zoomed through the air, flying quickly towards the Oddish's location. "Look out Oddish! Dodge!" The head-on attack was easily avoided with a leap to the right, and Hotaru quickly decided to counter. "Razor Leaf!" Swinging her head, Rafflesia launched a flurry of razor sharp leaves from her head, a few of them pounding into the pink body of Hoppip before he was able to execute the tackle attack. As the flyer shook off the surprise attack, Hotaru ordered another toxic attack. "Try Toxic again!" Oddish's face contorted as she drew on the mysterious powers within her body which allowed her to manifest attacks. Poison was excreted from pores within her body and the liquid was gathered in her mouth and mixed with saliva so it could fly farther. Rearing back and lunging forward, the grass type shot a ball of sludge from her body, however, it only few a few meters before splashing down on the ground. "Hoppip, splash!" Looking astounded by this novice call, the Hoppip promptly curled its body into a ball and fell to the ground, narrowly missing the Oddish's body. The "splash" mimicked a cannonball style dive, and Hotaru couldn't help but applaud his creativity. "Not bad." She said with a smirk. "Tail Whip!" The Hoppip twirled around in it's place, causing the leaves on her head to slap into Oddish's body and sending the grass type stumbling back. "Oddish, absorb!" A red beam of light shot from the Oddish's body, contacting the Hoppip's form and draining it of a small chunk of it's health. "Synthesis!" The Hoppip began to glow, allowing it to recover any HP it had lost from the attack. This battle was getting nowhere, and Hotaru knew that facing a pokemon that could utilize a recovery type move was a pain in the ass. It was clear that she would need to master the Toxic attack if this was going to end in a timely matter. "Try another Toxic attack!" The Oddish cried in obediance as it's body reared back, gathering up the toxic elements stored deep within her body and mixing it with saliva in her mouth. Aiming at the glowing Hoppip, she shot a small ball of the liquid which quickly made contact, covering the pokemon with highly poisonous liquid. Even if he kept synthesizing, the poison would eventually cause it's downfall. A red beam sucked in Hoppip and a bag full of cash was thrown to her feet. "You're no fun. I'm out of here!" Collecting her cash and her pokemon, she returned to Jade City in order to recover. [/blockquote]
