Takeuchi Rio was deep in thought, sitting by the side of one of the many pools of water dotting the route. Her Feebas, Marrino, was swimming in the relatively shallow puddle, enjoing her time outside of her Poke Ball.
"Marrino," Rio sighed, "Just how are we supposed to do anything about Prof. Krane's request? You can't fight, and we don't have any other Pokemon. We can't even capture new ones because we can't weaken them."
Marrino looked downcast at this, and she felt like she was being slighted, despite knowing that Rio would never mean it as an insult. And Rio looked so worried, she prided herself on keeping her promises, she was thinking so hard on how to solve the problem. And they couldn't rely on the Egg, for all they knew it contained another pokemon with limited combat abilities like a Magikarp.
[Training: Water Pulse, not in natural progression]
An idea struck her as she swam. She gulped up a moutful of water, and spat it at Rio, an attempt to get her attention. This fell somewhat short however, and the human didn't even notice. [1/10]
Determined to attract attention, not justto herself, but to her idea, Marrino would dive down and fill her mouth with water once more, surfacing to spray it into the air. The water moved in an arc, sparkling in the sunlight and landing once more into the lake. [2/10]
Somehow, when Marrino spat for the third ime, perhaps because of the way her jaw was opened, the water came out in a small circular shape that rained down int the water. By repeating the process, she was able to make it travel a bit farther, and to make the ring a little wider. [3/10]
Noting her progress with some pride, she spat forth the watery rings again and again, aiming ever nearer to the land. Her objective? Rio's face. THAT should certainly catch some attention. [4/10]
When the aquating ring's upper edge slapped her trainer in the head, the human girl looked around bewilderedly, whet and somehow stinging. "Are we under attack!? Marrino we have to run...oh." She stopped, noting that there was no other pokemon around for whatever reason. [5/10]
"Wait...Marrino, that was YOU? Try it again. Do whatever it is that you just did." Marrino complied, Spitting up not just one but two rings of water in the same gulp this time, which slammed into the girl one after anoth, knocking her off balance. [6/10]
"My head feels kind of fuzzy now for some reason...what is that? Do it of to the side, so I can get a recording on Deks." When this time there were a trio of rings, the snarky machine Riop had brought out beeped slightly. [7/10]
"That's a Water Pulse attack. It hits fairly hard when used by a Water Pokemon, but is overall pretty lackluster. Then again, it has the potential to Confuse a target, which is probably why you can't think straight. By the way, a Water Pulse is supposed to do just that, pulse. Stable rings aren't acceptable, your Feebas is a failure. Then again, so are most Feebas." [8/10?]
"Alright Marrino, you heard the program. Make those rings pulse! Show it what you're made of!" A trio of rings of water shot into the sky once more, shining in the light as they expanded ad contracted before exploding into a multitude of sparkling droplets. "It's beautiful..." Rio whispered. [9/10?]
"One more time Marrino, then we need to go see if we can swell our ranks some. You're brilliant." Marrino was aglow with pride, although pride wasn't the only thing glowing. Hetr body was literally shining, granting the strange power of Pokemon Moves to her actions as a quartet of large contra-pulsating rings rose high into the air and burst with sparkly glory. Even though she wasn't hit, and so couldn't be Confused, Rio still felt a bit dazzled by the sheer appeal of the Move. [10/10 maybe?]
"Now all we need is a wild Pokemon and this will have deen a better day than I could have hoped..."
