(Like with my Route Two thread, I'll be training intermittenly between random encounters. I'll be tutoring all of my pokemon in one move each. At once. When a battle at the end of each thread, I'll call two back, so the battles will be one-on-one...
Chikorita - Ingrain, 10P Egg Houndour - Rock Smash, 10P HM Zangoose - Brick Break, 10P Egg))
After his trip through Flint City, James noticed that the city harbored a gym, among its many different buildings. He decided to challenge the leader, but would first train his pokémon some more. He called all three out, and immediately, Aster and Wolf turned their attention to James. Quin was still a bit ticked off about being captured and was sitting on the ground, facing away from her trainer.
James sighed in exasperation at Quin's lack of enthusiasm, but spoke anyway. "OK, guys. We'll all be doing some training, so we can beat the leader of the gym in Flint City!" At this, Aster and Wolf cheered, and the prospect of a challenging fight even piqued Quin's interest. James opened up his pokédex, Walter, and began looking through it to see what kinds of moves his pokémon could learn. After deciding, he grinned and put Walter away.
[BEGIN TRAINING SEQUENCE]
"OK! Let's start! Aster, you're able to grow vines and absorb nutrients out of the ground. This will keep you from moving, but it'll heal you over time!" He went over to Aster, touching her feet, as he continued. "The grow out the bottom of your feet, so you must have them in their. Once you figure out how to make them come out, you'll be able to dig them into the ground." Aster nodded with a "Rita!" and began moving her legs a bit, in order to try and find the roots. (A: 1)
James moved over to where Wolf was eagerly awaiting his instructions. "Alright, champ. You can build up enough strength in your charge, that you could even crush rocks with your forehead! Let's see that happen, alright! There's a bunch of rocks over there," James pointed at a mass of large rocks laying in a group. "so I want you to build up your strength and smash those things!" (W: 1)
Lastly, he moved over to where Quin was halfway paying attention to him. James got to one knee and put a hand on Quin's shoulder. "Look. I know you don't like me much, but we're all gonna have to train in order to be strong enough to beat this guy. OK? I read in my pokédex that you're able to destroy barriers with your claws, so I want you to practice swiping your claws at that rock wall, alright?" With a nonchalant "Zan...", Quin moved to the rock wall and began slashing at it. (Q: 1)
James removed his jacket and laid it on top of his backpack, before laying flat on the ground, his palms just outside of his shoulders. With a heave, he completed his first push-up. "You guys aren't gonna be the only ones working out..." He spoke silently, more to himself than to his companions. He continued with his workout, slowly but steadily.
Aster still struggled with locating the roots in her feet. She even rolled onto her back, so she could bend her front leg in an attempt to see the bottom. Nothing. She would have doubted James' information, but there was no reason he'd lie to her. He wasn't lying about Sweet Scent, though she was a bit confused about why he wouldn't want her to keep working on that. (A: 2)
Wolf took some steps back and charged the rock again. Seeing there was still no damage, he growled and charge at the rock again. He had the same effect, which was nothing, so he charged it once more. Not willing to give up so easily, he decided to charge a different rock. Maybe this one would be easier to smash? (W: 2)
Quin was lazily moving her claws along the rock wall, not really putting in too much effort. Suddenly, James noticed this at push-up number thirteen, and went over to her. Tired with trying to use the friendly approach and getting no results, James took a more assertive tone.
"Listen, Quin! You're not going to get any stronger by being lazy, so stop goofing around and break through that wall!" This seemed to put a bit of pep in Quin as she nodded and began furiously scratching at the rock wall. Content, James walked back over to his spot, while Quin continued trying to slash through the wall. (Q: 3)
Hearing James' chewing out of Quin, Aster desperately struggled to get roots to come out of her feet. She was so afraid of receiving such a verbal beating, that she put everything she had into it. All of a sudden, she felt a strange sensation in her feet. A tingling that she had never felt before. Maybe her feet were falling asleep? She looked down at her feet to check, and to her amazement, she had little roots growing out of them!
She was so happy, that she called out to the other three, to show off her accomplishment. James looked over and clapped in approval. "Good job, Aster. Now that you can do that, try to dig them into the ground!" Aster let out a cheerful "CHIK!" and resumed trying to fully use the move. (A: 4)
Not one to be shown up by Aster, Wolf took a larger running start and rammed into one of the rocks as hard as he could. Though he only managed to chip it a little bit, he definitely managed to scratch his head a bit on the rough rock. He quietly whimpered and licked his paw, before rubbing his scratch. There wasn't any blood, and it was only a small thing, so Wolf decided to continue with his training. (W: 3)
Quin had been blocking everything out, especially his self-appointed rival, Aster. She couldn't understand how such a small thing was able to beat her so easily. The thought only made her slash at the wall even harder. She had to prove she was the strongest of James' pokémon, no matter what it took. She slashed hard at the wall again, leaving a noticeable mark. She began fueling her training with the anger she felt. (Q: 4)
Finally, Wolf had managed to crack the rock he'd been working on, though managed to worsen his wound in the process. His head was now bleeding a little, which he saw from the spots of blood on the damaged rock. This wouldn't stop him until he could break the rocks with ease. He began putting distance between him and the rock, and was ready for another charge, when he felt James' hand on his back. (W: 4)
James sprayed the potion on Wolf, making sure the medicine went directly on the wound, if nowhere else. Wolf anticipated this by scrunching his eyes shut. After Wolf's wound began disappearing, James looked around and noticed the progress of his pokémon. Wolf cracked a rock, Aster grew tiny roots, and Quin left a mark in the wall. Small victories, but they were a start.
"Alright, gang! You've all done awesome work, and I think you've all earned a break. Let's rest a bit." He called Aster and Wolf back into their pokéballs, so they could rest a little easier. Not content with taking a break, Quin continued slashing at the wall in hopes of breaking through. "C'mon, Quin! Stop for a moment. I want to talk to you for a bit."
The zangoose came to a stop, panting and sweating from the workout. She walked over to James and sat down beside him. 'Perhaps she's starting to grow to like me more?', James wondered. He put his hand on her head and jokingly messed up the fur on top. As a playful response, Quin pushed him with her claws. James nearly fell over, and they both started laughing. Maybe things would work out between them, after all.

[ The furthest that you are able to go is to Flint City since Route 3 and Route 2 are two spaces apart on the map. Regardless, I'll simply move this thread to Flint City. Also, go to routes for random encounters and landmarks since you technically can't get random encounters within cities. Saves staff trouble. ]

((Bu-bu-but... I had made a post in Flint City, before this one in Route Three! I followed the map!! )) James had been talking to Quin, and telling her a bit about himself and his goals, so he could build a better friendship with her. That's when he went to point towards the Flint City gym, in showing where they would be fighting the gym leader, and he noticed a small bird pokémon up in a tree. He pulled out Walter, his trusty pokédex, and used it to learn about the Taillow. "I see." He looked back up at it while putting Walter away, and saw it hadn't noticed them. "Hmm... If I just call out to it, it might fly away." He turned to Quin and made a fist. "Let's make it angry, instead, so it'll attack!" Quin definitely agreed with James' thinking and began running for the tree, as James issued his command. "Quin, use Scratch on the tree!" Quin did so, and managed to shake the tree a little bit, but the taillow only flitted its wings a bit, not even turning to look at the source of the shake. Angered at this, Quin began rapidly scratching at the tree, the immense vibrations being enough to get the bird pokémon out of its nest. It simply hopped out and seemingly dropped down to hit Quin with a Quick Attack. "Use Quick Attack to get out of the way, Quin!" James' zangoose easily dodged the blow by using her own Quick Attack in a defensive manner. After that, she followed the order to use another Quick Attack, followed by a Scratch. The taillow was hit by the first attack, and while it flew through the air(not with its wings), it was hit with the second attack. The taillow got up and flew at Quin to assault her with Peck. The attack hit, and it hit again and a third time, before Quin managed to Scratch her foe to the ground. It was obvious that the last attack had wounded a wing, by the fact that taillow didn't resume its flying. Instead, it used Growl on Quin, then hopped towards her for more peck attacks. Feeling little pity for the pathetic position the opponent was in, Quin moved to finish it with two more Scratch attacks.

(( It's all good, big guy. I guess I should have made a bigger scene in Flint City. lol )) "ALRIGHT!" James cheered after Quin showed that taillow the business end of her claws, knocking it out. "Well then, I guess we should get back to training, right?" Quin gave James and approving "Zan!", before they headed back to the area they had been training on. The cracked rock and scratched rock wall were reminders to how well his pokémon had been doing in their training, and he called Aster and Wolf out, so all three could resume what they had been doing. "Are you guys good to finish up your training? Just work hard, but don't overdo it! I don't need any of you pulling a muscle or anything!!" At that, his pokémon set off to train in their moves. [RESUME TRAINING] Thankfully for Aster, she was able to remember how to produce the tiny roots from her feet. She began trying to get them to move more, occasionally getting them to squirm a bit. Simply 'squirming a bit' wasn't nearly good enough, and she continued trying to work the muscles so she could move them more. Little by little, she built up strength in her roots, and even managed to slide them through across the surface of the ground. (A: 5) Wolf was determined to give that rock a good walloping, and he did indeed. He repeatedly kept ramming into the same rock, causing it to chip away into nothingness. His head hurt a bit, but at least he was successful. Giving the shattered rock an indignant "Hou...", he continued by charging yet another rock. Unfortunately, he would need to charge it a bit more for any noticeable effect... (W: 5) Quin decided to switch arms for training in her move, so she could turn the previous scratch marks into a scratched-in 'X'. There was no real purpose for this, except to look a bit cooler. She continued in her endeavors of attempting to shatter the rock wall, swiftly scratching it over and over. She then decided a more powerful swipe would be better than a fast one, and slowed down her attacks to build up more power in them. (Z: 5) James casually observed as his companions continued with their training, and was pleased with how much enthusiasm each of them had. He was especially relieved to see Quin taking this training so seriously, seeing as how lax she normally was. He was so elated, that he even got pumped up from watching them. He reached into his backpack and gently lifted the egg that was inside, cradling it in his arms. He then began running laps around the area, while holding the egg. Aster was finally getting used to using and moving her roots, and she began trying to force them into the tough soil. With no progress, she did nothing but try again. She kept straining to try and penetrate the ground with her roots. Even if she achieved this, though, she still needed to figure out how to absorb the nutrients into her body. This prospect didn't dismay her, however, as she kicked it up a bit, so she could master the technique even faster. (A: 6) Wolf growled at the impetuous rock that refused to give, before charging at it again, slamming into it with his forehead. Finally, it gave way ever so slightly, and a crack formed. This was enough to motivate Wolf even further, now that he was sure he could do it. He shook his head, to get the debris off, and charged the stone once more. The crack grew a bit bigger, and Wolf seemed about to burst with pride. (W: 6) Quin had now matched the first mark with the second one, as she scratched into the rock wall. Now, she decided to alternate her powerful swings, in order to keep both marks even. Once, twice, thrice she clawed at the rock, hoping it would give way. Another swipe, and suddenly a few cracks formed where her claw had impacted it. She took a step back to admire her handiwork, before resoundingly swiping at the wall even more. (Q: 6) Aster had wanted to show her trainer how much progress she had made, but looked up in disappointment. He was nowhere to be found, even though his backpack and jacket sat on the side of the path. She looked around, timidly calling out for him. "Chika! Chika! Chiiiika!" She sighed sadly, but decided to get back to her training. The roots had grown longer and thicker in size, looking strong enough to penetrate this soil. She attempted to push them down, and slowly, they squeezed their way into the ground. "RITA!" (A: 7) As soon as he heard Aster's cries, James looked in the direction they came from. He had absolutely no idea where he was, as he had been idly jogging. Thankfully, Aster was loud enough to let him know he was near to where they were, and he followed the sound of her voice, arriving back to the training site just as Aster managed to dig her roots into the ground. Wolf almost rushed to Aster once she started yelling for James, but realized there was no actual danger, so he continued with his training. If the rock he had been charging at would have had sentience, Wolf would have said something badass to it, before charging at it once again. Slamming into the rock, he popped a big chunk of it off. Happy with his progress, he yipped cheerily before charging it once more. (W: 7) Quin couldn't care less about what happened with Aster. This wasn't just because she didn't like the plant pokémon, but also because she had tuned almost everything out as she slashed her way at the rock wall. She had caused a noticeable amount of rock to crumble off, as a result of her constant slashing, but needed to be able to destroy it with one swipe. Then, she could look proudly at mastering the Brick Break move. (Q: 7) [PAUSE TRAINING] James decided to put the egg back in his backpack as he turned to the others and almost pulled Walter out. He initially thought that he'd be able to get some info on their progress, but decided that he and his pokémon would probably be able to tell if they had master their respective techniques. Almost at the same time, Aster and Quin slowed to a stop, covered in sweat. They had been training so hard, they knew James wouldn't mind if they took a break. "Alright guys. You're doing good. We'll pick it back up after a bit of a break." He called Aster and Quin into their pokéballs, and watched as Wolf continued to strike at the rocks. He whistled and called out Wolf's name, to which Wolf immediately turned to him and bounded for him. "Wait! No, don't-" It was too late, as Wolf leapt up at James in excitement, knocking James onto his bottom. He sighed and scratched Wolf under the chin, as he sat there idly. [RANDOM METHOD]

James let out a long, relaxed sigh as he slowly stretched out his body. "ow." He moved his hand to grab a small pebble that he didn't realize was where he was setting his head down. He went to toss it over towards the swamp, when he caught sight of a gooey purple pokémon. It was almost cute in how hideous it was, and James slowly stood back up and started walking towards it with Wolf at his side. "Hi, there." This approach didn't really seem to have worked in his previous experiences, but there was no harm in trying.
The mass of sludge looked up at James and let out a happy "Grimer!". 'Wow! This one is actually friendly...' With that thought in mind, he decided to move along with trying to persuade it to join him. "Grimer, huh? Nice to meet ya. I'm James, and this is Wolf." At the mention of his name, Wolf barked a greeting. "I was wondering if you'd like to be friends with us, and join my team of pokémon...?" Grimer seemed to be deep in thought at James' proposition, but finally gave off a cheerful "Mer!!", in agreement.
"Wow, thanks! I promise you won't regret it!" James took out a pokéball and explained it to grimer. "In order for you to join me, though, you have to get inside this pokéball for a bit. Then we could hang out and have fun!" Grimer eagerly moved its way over, as James pushed the button in order to make the ball bigger. After the two were in arm's reach, he simply touched the pokéball to the poison pokémon, and it was zapped inside. James watched as the ball shook around for a bit, waiting for it to come to a stop.
(( I promise I won't be catching pokémon with this method too often. I'm just kinda burnt out with writing lengthy posts, after the training. ^^' ))

After the ball stopped shaking, James held it into the air and yelled out in victory. "Wow.", he said, putting the pokéball away, "I didn't think I'd actually be able to just make friends with a wild pokémon and catch it that way..." He had always heard that wild pokémon were so aggressive and disliking of being around trainers. He certainly experienced that with Quin, initially. He looked around, before sitting back down to resume the break. After a bit, though, he decided to call Quin and Aster back out to join Wolf in finishing up the training.
[RESUME TRAINING]
Full of determination, Aster was certain she'd be able to master the Ingrain technique pretty soon. She managed to dig her roots slowly into the ground, which was no small feat. If she ever battled on softer ground, she would have no trouble at all, so training on this tough soil was perfect. Unfortunately, she still needed to figure out how to absorb the soil's nutrients... (A: 8)
Wolf hopped from side to side, about to burst with energy, before taking a running start at a rock. This training was definitely toughening him up, and he didn't even feel much pain from that impact. Soon, he'd be able to smash rocks without much effort or pain, at all. He stepped back and took another go at it, crushing the front of the rock. This was the best progress he'd made so far, and he howled in triumph. (W: 8)
Quin had been making some nice progress as well, in learning the Brick Break technique. There were now three 'X' marks scratched into the wall of rock, and she was fiercely starting her third. Now, instead of simply scratching the surface, her claws were beginning to break slightly across the wall. A sizable indent proved her improved technique. (Q: 8)
Aster was a bit surprised that the roots were actually absorbing the nutrients by themselves. She allowed the refreshing vitamins to enter her body, before removing the roots. This proved a bit difficult, however, since they were firmly embedded within the ground. After a bit of struggling, she managed to retract the roots, before letting them out again.
This time, the roots went straight into the ground, and started healing her. There were no words to describe how excited she was at this point, and did the move once more, before exclaiming to James. As James walked over to see what she was calling about, Aster removed the roots and put all her efforts into plunging the roots deep within the soil. (ASTER: 10!)
James could see the dirt around her shift a bit as she performed the move successfully, and was overwhelmed with pride that she had mastered the move. "Awesome job, Aster! I knew you could do it!" He attempted to pick her up to hug her, but she was stuck to the ground due to her roots. He laughed and simply petted her.
Wolf was also happy for Aster, about her learning the Ingrain move, but he couldn't let up with his own training. Deciding to change it up a bit, he charged a nearby tree, shaking it and crushing a bit of the bark off. He growled at the tree and charged it again. After that, he went back to ramming the rocks with his head, dealing more and more damage with each strike. (W: 9)
Quin gave the wall another strike with her claws, smashing into it a bit more. She could feel that she was getting more powerful, as she continued to deliver blow after powerful blow. It wouldn't be much longer before she, too, would master her assigned move. Letting out a fierce battle cry, she put as much power as she had into her swing, causing a large amount of damage in the process.
Small pieces of rock fell to the ground as she panted from the assault. She wouldn't be done with it, though, and gave it another crushing blow. More debris, as the rock wall started giving way to the zangoose's barrage of attacks. Quin moved to an unmarred section of the wall, where she reached back with her claw and gave everything she had left. With a thunderous roar, the rock wall gave way and came crashing down. Satisfied, she nodded with a grin and sauntered over to where James and Aster were standing in awe. (QUIN: 10!)
This was it. Wolf had to bring this rock to its proverbial knees, with this next strike. Rubble lay strewn about the pile of rocks, where he had successfully smashed through some of them. He wasn't content with simply being able to smash them with multiple hits, though, and pawed the ground like a tauros, as he readied for his charge.
One could almost see fire in his eyes as he glared at his target. He charged forward with determination and impacted with the rock, completely obliterating it. He stumbled back, proud of what he had done, but a bit dizzy from it. He had mastered the move, but would still have to get used to the effects of ramming into solid objects... (WOLF: 10!)
[END TRAINING]
After a congratulatory cheering session and a bit of light-hearted raucous, James decided to call his pokémon back to their balls, as he turned towards Flint City. His smirk was almost wicked, as he took a step forward. "Alright, Flint City. You'd better get ready for James Randen!" With that, he threw his jacket on and put on his backpack, and started running for the city.

(( OK. I'm back to training and random encounters. YAY! ))
Though this particular route kind of creeped James out, he figured it would be best for training his new poison and bug-type. Kalvin the spinarak was following closely to him, moving surprisingly quick for such a young pokémon. If anything else, James knew Kalvin had to learn to fight. That was, after all, the main aspect of being a pokémon trainer. He would train the little guy like he'd never been trained before. This wasn't saying much, of course, as Kalvin never had been trained before.
"Alright, Kalvin. Let's start with some strength training. Do you know what a push-up is?" Kalvin simply looked at James oddly, quietly commenting. "Rak?" James immediately got on the ground and proceeded to show his pokémon this exercise. "Alright. First, you start like this, with you arms straight. Then, you bring your body down... like this. Make sure your body doesn't touch the ground. You bring yourself back up... And that's a push-up!" He stood up and brushed his palms together to get the gunk off.
"You do those over and over, and it'll make you stronger. And if your legs are stronger, you'll also be able to run faster!" Kalvin began spinning in circles, as James' energy was conveyed to him. "Spina! Spinarak!" He stopped and looked as focused as it could, with its little arachnid face, before setting itself in a stance and doing its version of sit-ups. To a human, it would seem more like squats, but to a spinarak, they were the same thing.

(( Is this you speaking through a koffing, Beltran? XD ))
James dropped to the ground, an instinct from doing fire drills at school, when he was younger. He tried to hold his breath, but with no warning, he wasn't able to inhale before being hit with the Smog. He breathed in a tiny bit, but that was enough to get him into a similar coughing fit as the wild koffing. Kalvin was luckier, though, able to quickly move to the side and out of the attack's range. Through hacking and pain, James called out to his spinarak. "Use String... Shot."
He barely got it out, as his lungs filled with the mild toxin. After he managed to move out of the cloud, he coughed all of it out and pulled out Walter, scanning the pokémon. "Well, that's a sensible name, at least!" The sticky String Shot hit koffing, but had no effect on slowing down the levitating pokémon. Before the koffing could even Tackle Kalvin, James had called him back. "I'm gonna need something a little more effective... Go, Wolf! Use Will-o-Wisp!" Upon emerging from his pokéball, the houndour let loose the blue flames.
The flames danced around on the koffing's body, burning it before the flames died down. The poison-type went for another Smog attack, but James already had a solution in mind. "Ember!" Wolf shot out the fiery attack, which ignited the gaseous attack, almost instantly burning it off. The koffing was unpleasantly surprised to find it got a tad bit singed from having its attack burn in its face. Undaunted by this, the pokémon went flying at Wolf with a Tackle attack.
"Dodge it and use Leer, Wolf!" Despite his best efforts, Wolf wasn't able to fully dodge the attack, and took the koffing's blow to his side. A mild hit, it was a hit nonetheless. He turned back to face his opponent and glared at it with Leer attack, which caused the koffing to fall to the ground, its energy seemingly drained from its body. "Quick, Wolf, use another Ember!" A harsh hit to the koffing, who was quickly starting to hate fire. It rose to the air once more, and tried for another Tackle, hoping it would remain a successful attack. This time, Wolf evaded the attack, and retaliated with yet another Ember.
Extremely shaken, the koffing struggled to stay afloat, but drifted to the ground. Its body burned over and over, didn't have the strength to continue fighting, but Wolf wasn't satisfied and used one last Ember.

"Great job, Wolf!" James called his houndour back into its pokéball before calling Kalvin back out. "Sorry, Kalvin. That koffing was a bit too tough for you to fight. I didn't want you getting hurt, buddy." Kalvin simply cried out happily, as James expressed so much concern over him. James had initially brought Kalvin back out to resume its training, but decided that it would be better to try and teach it a move, first. Having a decent attack would definitely help the younger pokémon in fights. But what attack would James be able to train Kalvin in? He wasn't familiar with what kinds of moves the bug pokémon would be able to learn, so he consulted Walter on the matter.
He listened to his pokédex list off some of the attacks that a spinarak could learn, nodding lightly every so often. "Bounce, huh? I wonder how powerful that would be?" He looked over at his pokémon and figured such a small body landing on an enemy probably wouldn't inflicted too much damage. He continued listening, commenting quietly at a few of them. He spent a good bit of time looking through each of them, while Kalvin seemed to be shadow-boxing a few yards away. James finally narrowed the list down to two different attacks, Poison Jab and Bounce. These attacks seemed fairly simple to learn and use, which was good since Kalvin wasn't as tough as his older teammates.
For Bounce, all he had to to was jump into the air and land on his enemy. Pretty simple stuff. For Poison Jab, he just had to put a bit of his venom on on of his legs and jab the enemy. That one wasn't as simple as Bounce, but it would probably be easier for Kalvin to master. James tried to pick between the two, trying to decide which would be better for his pokémon to learn. After a while, he mentally kicked himself as he realized he could just teach Kalvin both moves. Why limit him to only one of these techniques, if he could learn both? James put Walter away and was about to address Kalvin, when he saw a wild pokémon.

As soon as James saw the volbeat, he opened up Walter in order to find out what this pokémon was. After confirming that it was a volbeat, he put his pokédex away and called out to it. "Hey, volbeat!" The bug pokémon seemed rather surprised at James' voice, as it had been completely oblivious to his presence. It turned to face James with a confused look on its face, as he continued. "I challenge you to a battle!" The volbeat's expression instantly became that of a serious one, and the entire area was lit up brightly. James covered his eyes as the light blinded him, and it took a while for him to see what was happening. As soon as he regained his vision, he saw four volbeats.
Was it an illusion from being blinded? Had the volbeat called his buddies over while he and Kalvin were distracted? He reopened Walter to find out. "Double Team? I didn't even think something like that was possible!" Nevertheless, Kalvin was now surrounded by a small team of volbeats, unsure of what to do. "Kalvin, use String Shot on each of them. Find out which is the real one!" Kalvin turned away from one of the illusions and shot a spray of sticky webbing at it. It disappeared as the attack passed through it. That's when he got Tackled by the real volbeat and was sent several feet away. As he got back up, the volbeat used Double Team once again, and there were now six of them. Frustrated, James recalled Kalvin in order to use something a bit more effective in dispelling these illusions. "Wolf! I choose you!" As soon as the houndour emerged, it took a startled step back as it saw the gang of volbeats that it was up against.
"Only one is real. Use Ember to find it!" Wolf growled and used Ember, sweeping his head to the side to hit more than one. Instantly, two of the illusions disappeared and the real volbeat got hit with the Ember as well. "Quick, use Will-o-Wisp on it!" James had to have Wolf act fast, before the volbeat was able to blend in again, with the three remaining illusions. The blue flames of Wolf's attack hit their mark, inflicting the volbeat with a nasty burn. James cheered, sure that the burns would be able to distinguish it from the rest. Much to his dismay, the three fakes changed to reflect the volbeat's new appearence. "Drat! Use Ember again!" The flames were able to dispel yet another illusion, but the real volbeat was left unphased by the attack.
James was getting hopeful about there now being only three volbeats to choose from, but it used Double Team again, creating three new copies. "Oh, come on!!" The volbeat then used Flash attack for the second time, blinding both James and Wolf. James could hear his pokémon cry out from being hit with a Tackle, and their sight was returned to them. If nothing else, at least the volbeat was receiving damage from its burns. Now that James and Wolf had their sight restored, they didn't know which was the real volbeat. No doubt it had swapped around with its copies, while they were blinded. "Wolf, just keep using Embers, until you knock that thing out!" It was the only thing Wolf could do at this point, and their was no use keeping Wolf waiting for his commands.
The exchange of Tackles and Embers didn't last long, as the bug-type quickly fell to the fire attacks. Thankful that this fight was over, James just knew he had to capture such an effective fighter. "Pokéball, go!" With that, he hurled the ball at the burned volbeat, with hopes that it would go quietly.

Capture: Approved The Pokeball would wiggle and finally stop glowing around the seal, signifying that the bug Pokemon within was captured.

After acquiring the volbeat, whom he apply named Rex, James put the ball in the respective slot. When he did that, he realized Rex was his sixth pokémon. With no more slots on his carrier for more pokémon, he wondered if he could even catch more. He consulted his trusty pokédex on this matter, and learned of the PC System, in Pokémon Centers. "Sweet! I guess imagining them being automatically teleported to a digital storage space isn't too far-fetched, seeing as even the biggest pokémon can fit inside a tiny pokéball!" He laughed a bit at this, though Kalvin simply stared blankly at him, wondering what he was even talking about.
This thought made James wonder if that was all pokéballs were: Little, round PCs that digitally store each pokémon. 'Hmm... Maybe I shouldn't be thinking such deep thoughts, or I might get a headache.' Again, James laughed, but not even speaking before he laughed made spinarak even more confused. After a bit, James' train of thought returned to before the battle. He was going to teach some moves to Kalvin before the fight, but now he made a choice not to go through with that. He now had two bug pokémon and, as much as he hated to admit it, he wanted to keep Rex with him more than Kalvin. It was a horrible thing to think about, in his mind, but decisions like this must have been the kinds of decisions trainers all over the world had to make, all the time.
He didn't know what he was going to do because he didn't want to keep Kalvin locked away in a PC. He was too young a pokémon to have something like that happen to him. Instead, James sat down and pondered his options deeply. Meanwhile, Kalvin crawled up his back and sat upon his still head. 'I could trade him to another trainer... I'm sure someone would love to take him, and he'd be happy being with someone rather than in the PC. I could give him to a professor, like in Fairburn. They always take good care of pokémon. I could... I don't know. Maybe I could let him stay at a daycare center?' James sat there and continued to think about what he wanted to do, trying to figure out what would be best for him and Kalvin. He was so deep in thought, that he didn't even see the wild pokémon approaching.

Random Method:
A level 7 Wild Mudkip appears! A Mudkip, barely noticeable. You Notice it's fin sticking up from the muddy water with the top half of it's head poking out.

(( so i herd u liek mudkips ))
Shonkey was snapped out of his deep thought when he noticed a bit of movement. On his head, that is. It was Kalvin that noticed the mudkip, and began tapping James on the head. He looked around wondering what his spinarak was trying to get his attention about. That's when the pokémon hopped out of the water and flung a glob of mud right at James face. "Aah! What the heck?!" The mischievous mudkip laughed at what it had done, while James wiped the mud from his face. Standing up, he pulled out Kalvin's pokéball and called him into it. He set in in its slot, and pulled out a different one. He was glaring at the wild pokémon, so he didn't notice which one it was.
It didn't matter, though, as almost all of his pokémon were tough enough to stand up to this miscreant. As he threw the ball on the ground, the mudkip laughed and dove back into the murky waters. Aster emerged from her pokéball, as James pointed in the direction of where the mudkip and disappeared. "YOU COME BACK HERE, POKÉMON! I'M GONNA FIGHT YOU!" Aster was taken aback at James' volume, then turned to see the smears of mud on his face. The mudkip emerged and quickly launch another glob of mud at him. James moved out of the way, and was about to give Aster her commands, except she was already doing it. A flurry of razor-sharp leafs flew at the mudkip, catching it quite off-guard.
It zigzagged towards Aster, getting hit with a few of the leafs from her Razor Leaf attack. When it was in range, it performed a Tackle on her, but didn't even budge her. That was because Aster had also used Ingrain, to root herself into the ground and provide her with a boost of health. After getting hit with the Tackle, Aster used Growl at the mudkip, lowering its attack power. The mudkip then swung around to perform a Mud-slap with its tail, then proceeded to try and run. Aster shook her head to the side, getting most of the mud off, then used another Razor Leaf. At this range, and with its back turned, the mudkip took the attack full-on.
Almost seeming like it would up and die from the Razor Leaf, mudkip slowly turned to face Aster, only to get another Razor Leaf to the face. With the mudkip on the ropes, James decided to give Kalvin some experience with finishing off a wild pokémon, and replaced Aster with him. "Alright, Kalvin. Use String Shot to hold it down, then Poison Sting!" Kalvin spun around to face away from mudkip, covering it with String Shot. He then turned around and almost seemed to roar as he scurried over to it. Once close enough, he leapt up and landed on the mudkip's head, biting down for a Poison Sting. Though the pokémon had tried to get away, its poor condition and the String Shot made it impossible. Now, it fully collapsed, closing its eyes.
