With a spring in her step, the young woman began walking down the worn path traversed by so many before her. Though she was thrilled to have started her Journey at last, she still needed to strengthen her team by adding more members. Even novice trainers knew that Pokemon lurked in tall grasses, so thats just where Hotaru went.
Immediately after leaving the limits of Fairburn Town, the heiress began to wade through the tall grass, seeking out a pokemon to battle, or capture if it was up to her standard of beauty. However, trainers who aimlessly meandered through the grass were never too sure of what Pokemon they would encounter.
Holding her breath, Hotaru carefully tip toed through the tall beach grasses keeping her eyes peeled for her first wild pokemon encounter.

Crimson optics settled on a pile of vines set upon a rock. However, something seemed off about the scene. Though the palm trees above were swaying in sync with the wind, the pile of vines seemed to wiggle due to a force stronger than the gusty sea air. Hotaru circled around the mass slowly, looking on as a pair of red boots seemed to pop out from the strange mass.
"What ugly shoes...no wonder someone threw them into the grass..."
Hearing the unintentional insult, a few vines burst apart, revealing large, white eyes which burned with anger staring directly at Hotaru. Standing itself up, the wild Tangela leapt from the stone and flew through the air towards the young woman. Screaming as she ran out of the way, she summoned her only form of defense from the crimson orb on her belt.
"Hasami! Get rid of it!!"
Assuming an attack stance, the novice Bulbasaur prepared for battle. However, without a command from her master, the creature was just as vulnerable as Hotaru was.
"Oh...right..." Hotaru said sheepishly. Pointing her finger straight out at the enemy Tangela, she shouted a command at her new companion. "Hasami, Tackle Attack!"
With a "Saur!" of obedience, the small grass type ran full speed towards the Tangela, attempting to ram into it with its full girth. Unfortunately for the novice Duo, the Tangela was ready for attack. Extending a thick vine from its body, the opponent picked Hasami off the ground and began to constrict the pokemon, dealing damage and interrupting the tackle attack.
Watching in horror as her new friend was being harmed, Hotaru almost forgot that Hasami's fate was in her hands. After a few seconds of watching helplessly, she shouted another command. "Chomp that vine off Hasami! Then tackle it again!"
Following her command, the Bulbasaur bit down on the vine, cutting through it just as her name sake implied. As soon as Bulbasaur hit the ground, its short legs carried it forward, it's head bashing into Tangela's body, sending it sailing backwards into the air.
"Nice Job, Hasami!" Hotaru encouraged, watching as the pile of vines flew through the air. However, a few of the vines from its body dove into the ground, Ingraining it into the sand to prevent any further uprooting attacks.
Hotaru had read about this technique before she began her Journey. Ingrain allowed pokemon to slowly regain health from the earth by sacrificing their mobility. However, maybe the duo could use this to their advantage.
"Hit it while it cant move! Petal Dance!"
Following her master's command, the bulb on Hasami's back pulsed, releasing a cloud of pink flower petals into the air. After a moment of the ammunition wafting in the air, the petals suddenly swirled forward in a tornado which quickly closed in on the immobile target. Impacting the Tangela with full force, hopefully it wouldn't be able to continue the battle and Hotaru could continue her search for cute pokemon. [/blockquote]

After getting beaten down with a Tackle and Petal Dance, the Tangela manages to resist some of the damages of Petal Dance due to it being a Grass Type. However, it was too much of a beatdown and the Tangela just flops on the ground, unconscious.

"Way to go Hasami!" Hotaru shrieked, extatic that she had won her first wild pokemon encounter. Though Hasami was getting stronger, only focusing on one pokemon was no way to become a well rounded trainer, and so She would continue her quest to expand her arsenal, this time with Hasami by her side.
Continuing to walk, she made her way to a small cluster of trees, hoping to find something cute seeking refuge in the shade. "Do you see anything Hasami?" She asked, her eyes squinted in search of another Pokemon to battle. With a disappointed "Saur," it was clear that neither of them could find another opponent, thought that didnt mean one wasnt lurking out of sight close by... [/blockquote]

Suddenly, she caught a splash of light green out of the corner of her eye. Shushing Hasami, the young woman crouched down in an attempt to blend in with the tall grass, her crimson optics fixed on the Chicorita who was blissfully eating some low hanging berries. As it ate, it's eyes began to grow heavy, a sign that a nap was near in the future.
Hotaru decided to take advantage of this situation, laying in wait until the pokemon drifted off to sleep. Sure enough, a few minutes passed before her target drifted off into a dream. Curling up in a ball on the ground, Hotaru waited until it's breathing slowed before expanding an empty pokeball from her belt.
Tossing the ball at her sleeping target, she hoped to save time and energy by catching it this way as opposed to fighting it. The ball began to wiggle in the grass, and it was only a matter of time before she found out if it was a successful capture or not. [/blockquote]

The Chikorita was too tired and happy from its recent meal to due anything to fight against the capture. All in all, it was indifferent to the matter anyways.

Though she didn't necessarily like the Chikorita species, Hotaru had read about their aromatherapy abilities and thought that they may be useful one day. After fastening the Pokeball to her belt, she walked forward with Hasami at her side, searching for another pokemon to encounter.
The tall, prickly grass tickled her legs and the black, kitten healed shoes on her feet were beginning to lose their shine and become covered in sand. Though she felt uncomfortable, the young woman persevered, searching for another possible addition to her team. [/blockquote]

With a smile, the young woman pointed at the Venonat, calling out an attack. "Hasami, tackle attack!" Taking off running, the young grass type sprinted forward and slammed it's body into the bug, sending it sailing a few meters backwards.
"All right! Nice job!" However, the young woman had spoken too soon. The venonat righted itself quickly and sent a wave of blue light out from it's eyes. The waves made contact with Hasami before Hotaru could call out a counter attack, causing the Bulbasaur to become confused. Quickly taking advantage of the dazed pokemon, Venonat charged foward, tackling Hasami into the air.
Shrieking as she watched her Bulbasaur sail backwards, she watched as Hasami picked herself up off the ground and assume it's stance once again. "Ok Hasami! Tackle attack!"
On her command, the grass type charged forward, only to be lifted into the air by an unseen force as she began to glow with a blue light, stopping the attack. However, the light didnt seem to have any other effect and dropped the small creature back to earth. Trainer and pokemon were confused as to what happened, so neither were able to react to another tackle attack from the Venonat.
Hasami had sustained some heavy damage from the bug, and Hotaru was growing frustrated. "GOGO! Tackle attack!"
Following her orders, Hasami charged forward, only to lifted back into the air by the psychic attack. "Perfect! Petal Dance!"
As Hasami floated in the air, her bulb pulsed, releasing a plume of pink petals which swirled into the venonat, dealing heavy damage and confusing it. "Nice job! Now Finish it with a tackle!"
Rushing to the disoriented insect, the Bulbasaur crashed into it, sending it careening backwards, hopefully knocking it out. [/blockquote]

Laying on it's back, struggling to move, Venonat would let out a weak cry. It seemed that it had not expected the Bulbasaur to find a way to counter it's attack, however it was still trying to give it's all. Standing on it's feet, Venonat would wobble from side to side. He was barely standing, one more hit from Bulbasaur would cause him to faint but he was too stubborn to go down.

The venonat was stubborn and seemed to be determined not to go out without giving every ounce of it's strength to overcoming their foe. However, it was clear that another attack from Hasami would end the conflict. Deciding to take the Venonat with her on her journey, she expanded an empty pokeball from her belt and threw it at her disoriented target.
Striking the purple insects body, it was engulfed in a blast of white light before being swallowed by the crimson and ivory orb. The orb began to wiggle on the ground, giving the opponent a chance to escape its fate. Only time would tell if Hotaru was successful or not... [/blockquote]

With another successful capture under her belt, Hotaru decided it was time to make her way out of the tall grass and treat the injuries sustained by Hasami. She was beginning to sweat from the sun and wanted to take a dip in the ocean before moving on. However, as she exited the thicket, she tripped over something in the grass, causing her to lose her balance and fall into the embrace of the twisting blades. As she fell, she heard a motion behind her. Had she tripped over a pokemon? [/blockquote]

With a flick of her pokedex, the display showed her all the information she needed to know about the tiny pokemon that sat behind her. It appeared pretty strong compared to the pokemon she had already encountered, and she didnt know if Hasami would be strong enough to widdle it down to a level of stamina where she could capture it. However, Cherubi was rather small, making it easier to tackle.
"All right Hasami, Tackle attack!" She yelled, her finger pointed at the target. Taking her command, the Bulbasaur took off at full speed, ramming into the small pokemon with her full strength. On impact, the Cherubi went sailing backwards, unable to recover from the attack launched by Bulbasaur.
Retaliating, the wild Cherubi charged forward, attempting to launch a tackle attack of its own. "Dodge it Hasami! Then tackle it from behind!"
Working in sync with eachother, the Bulbasaur sidestepped, allowing the charging pokemon to pass right next to her, Hasami quickly turned around and charged forward, tackling the Cherubi from behind, sending it sailing through the air once again. Though battle worn, the opponent wasn't giving up yet. It's body suddenly began to glow green, however, there were no other effects that Hotaru could see right away.
Suddenly, the tall grasses became animate, growing about a foot in height as they wrapped around Hasami's body, restraining her from other tackle attacks. After it had ensnared it's target, the Cherubi charged foward, attempting to tackle the immobile Hasami.
"Hasami! Petal Dance!"
The green bulb on Hasami's back suddenly fluxed, sending a plume of pink flower petals into the air which not only cut her free from the bindings, but also began to spiral directly into the charging opponent. Cherubi took the hit directly, becoming dizzy from the blast.
Immediately reaching for a Pokeball on her belt, Hotaru hurled the sphere at the Cherubi. The ball opened up near Cherubi, sucking up the dazed creature in a flash of white light. The ball began to twitch, but only time would tell if the capture was a success. [/blockquote]

The small Cherubi put up a good fight after all and as such, it was too drained to retaliate upon it being captured. Because of this, the Pokeball would wiggle back and forth rhythmically a couple of times before finally remaining sedentary, displaying the Cherubi's capture.

Successfully making her way out of the grass with her Bulbasaur and a few new Pokemon in tow, she felt like a successful trainer on her first day. She didn't know why her Father was always making a big deal about the dangers of traveling on your own.
Making her way down to the shore, she longed to take a dip in the cool ocean waters. However, it would be improper for her to just change in plain view of any passerby, so she would have to simply settle for wading in the waves. Removing her shoes and stockings, the heiress allowed the sand to slide between her toes as the cool waters lapped up against her legs to about calf high. She wondered what types of Pokemon dwelled in the tropical waters on the horizon, however she had no way to slake her curiosity without a boat. Unless...
A dock near the outskirts of Fairburn town caught her attention, and boats seemed to be moored up against it. Wading through the water and over to the dock, her long distance observation was correct. A few wooden boats were just carelessly tied to the piers long posts. Surely the peasants who abandoned these here wouldn't care that she had borrowed it, and it was even less likely that they would ever find out that their vessels had been temporarily commandeered by Hotaru.
Loading Hasami and herself into the boat, she began to row out to sea, wondering what treasures awaited her in the ocean. The sea was beginning to glow orange from the reflected sunset over the horizon. Darkness was on it's way, though Hotaru was sure she would find her way back to shore by nightfall. [/blockquote]
